Deer Mountain Fire Protection District – Fremont County, Colorado
We are seeking a qualified and passionate leader to serve as the next Fire Chief of the Deer Mountain Fire Protection District (DMFPD). Located in the heart of Fremont County, DMFPD proudly serves over 134 square miles of mountainous and rural terrain through fire protection, emergency medical services, and disaster response.
About the Role
As Fire Chief, you will oversee all department operations including fire suppression, prevention, emergency response, personnel management, training, and community engagement. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with regional partners and mutual aid organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily fire department operations
- Supervise and support volunteers and paid staff
- Develop training programs and enforce safety protocols
- Coordinate emergency response and incident command
- Maintain compliance with state and local regulations
- Represent the district in public meetings and interagency coordination
- Oversee budgeting, staffing, equipment, and strategic planning
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time fire service experience
- Colorado Fire Officer and Firefighter certifications (or equivalent)
- EMS certification (EMT-B or higher preferred)
- Strong administrative, leadership, and communication skills
- Knowledge of Colorado building/fire codes and emergency management procedures
