Fire Restriction Information

Information on fire restrictions & bans can change rapidly! The most current information can and should be obtained from the Fremont County Sheriff and the Deer Mountain Fire Chief.

Visit the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control for more information.

Steps to get a burn permit

·       Contact your local fire protection district: Find the fire district that serves your property and contact them directly for their specific application process.

·       Gather necessary information: Have the following details ready for your application:

-        Type of burn (e.g., slash, agricultural)

-        Size and type of material to be burned

-        Purpose of the burn

-        Your contact information and the landowner's information

·       Check for current fire restrictions: Before applying or burning, check the local fire restrictions. No open burning is allowed during "Red Flag Warning" periods in Fremont County.

·       Follow safety guidelines: You will be required to have fire-extinguishing equipment on hand, such as a charged garden hose, and to supervise the fire at all times until it is completely out.

Important considerations

·       Size limitations: For small piles of slash (up to 50 piles, each small enough to be out cold by sunset), you may apply for a simpler permit. Larger burns require different permits.

·       Agricultural burns: If your burn is for agricultural purposes, such as soil preparation or weed control, you may not need a permit, but you should still verify this with your local fire district.

·       Permit application: The application may be submitted online, by mail, or in person, depending on your local fire district's process.
